James J. Rodgers, Chairman, and the Parade Organization, cordially invite all students who live and/or attend

School in the area to participate in our following contests.

ENTRIES WILL BE COLLECTED BETWEEN 4/26/10 AND 4/30/10.

AWARDS NIGHT WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, ­MAY 21, 2010,

 AT FORT TOTTEN, THE ERNIE PYLE U.S.A.R. CENTER, BAYSIDE, NEW YORK

 

CONTEST RULES

 

All entries must relate to the theme for the grade of the entrant’s grade. The decision of the judges is final.  They may decide not to award any prize, or prizes, at their discretion.  All entries become the sole property of the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade Organization, Inc., which shall have all rights thereto.  By signing the consent form, the parent(s) agree to all the terms and conditions of the contest, and allow the entrant’s name to be publicized.  See the reverse side for the grade appropriate themes and the required consent form.

ART

 

  •  Open to all students in kindergarten through eighth grades.
  • All artwork must be on standard oak tag – 22” x 28”.
  • All artwork must be created by the student and must be original.

ESSAY/POETRY

 

  • Open to all students in fourth through eighth grades.
  •  All material must be typed and contain no more than 250 words.  All material created by the student must be original.

A COMPLETED AND SIGNED APPLICATION MUST BE AFFIXED TO THE BACK OF EACH ENTRY.

PRIZES/AWARDS

 ART AND ESSAY/POETRY – GRAND PRIZE:  A $500.00 U.S. Savings Bond.  An engraved plaque will also be awarded to each Grand Prize winner.  The winners will also receive an educational toy appropriate for his/her grade level. 

FIRST PLACE FOR ART AND ESSAY/POETRY:  Winners will be awarded an engraved medallion.  The winners will also receive an educational toy appropriate for his/her grade level.

SECOND AND THIRD PLACE FOR ART AND ESSAY/POETRY:  The winners will receive an educational toy appropriate for his/her grade level.  

Prizes will be awarded by local elected officials at a special Awards Night on Friday, May 21, 2010, at 7 P.M.  Directions from Little Neck/Douglaston to Fort Totten:  Take the Cross Island Parkway North one exit to Bayside.  Make right at light and proceed straight in to Fort Totten.  Security guard will direct you to the Bayside Historical Society.  Refreshments and pizza will be served.

All contestants are invited to march in the 2010 Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 2 P.M., as a separate unit with their own identifying banner.
