In the 1700s, life was very different than it is in the United States today. The Americans were fighting with England to gain independence from this country. The Patriots were the people who wanted to gain freedom from England and the Loyalists were the people who wanted to be ruled by England. The American Revolution (also known as the war between England and the colonies) went on for six years with some famous battles in New York such as the battle of Long Island and Fort Ticonderoga. After so many years, General George Washington and the Continental army won the war and the colonies were free to become the United States in 1783.

Today, we can continue the early Americans hard work by learning about and celebrating Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a special day where many people gather to put together parades honoring the war and the people in the war. Presidents Day is also a day when people in the United States celebrate George Washingtons birthday. The American Army protects us as they follow in the footsteps of George Washington, protecting our freedom and our people. Teachers in many schools in the United States talk about the American Revolution and why it is so important with their students. Many immigrants came to this country and continue to come to have freedom and a better life here. They are also a reminder of the war and the victories of George Washington and the Continental Army.

I feel good that I can do whatever I want and be whatever I want in the United States of America and I am proud to have America as my home country.

War of 1812

During the war of 1812 which was against the British.

Our forefathers thought we were finished.

They fought for Independence as they watched their Capitol burn.

But no matter how bad it seemed their spirit could not be turned.

We were better at sea than we were on land.

And that is what gave us the upper hand.

Thank you Francis Scott Key for writing our anthem

“Our Flag was still There”

Because you saw so many bombs bursting in air.

Memorial Day is when we remember our fallen heroes.

But the fourth of July is when we celebrate our freedom
.

Freedom Is All, Freedom Is One

Some only have the clothes on their backs

Some have the world in their hands, every whim and command granted

These traits set us apart, but there is one this that brings us all together

Our, freedom, our ability to speak up and be our own person

Our ability to stand up and fight for what is right

For freedom we fight and defend our country t

With freedom comes the responsibility to help those with none

For some freedom is all they want, but for all freedom is all we need
