Woman Of The Year
Gloria Bodie
Gloria Bodie was raised in Indiana, the oldest of nine children. She has always been a nature lover, being influenced by pictures and articles in Life Magazine and National Geographic. An ardent traveler, she loves to visit wonderful scenic and natural places worldwide.
Gloria and her husband, Walter, moved to Douglaston 17 years ago and immediately fell in love with the area. Before long, she was elected to the Boards of The Douglas Manor Association, The Douglas Manor Environmental Association, The Douglaston Garden Club and The Udalls Cove Environmental Association.
As Civic Beautification Chairman of the D M A / D M E A and The Douglaston Garden Club, she led her committees in the restoration of The Douglaston Train Station, Catherine Turner Richardson Park, Alameda Avenue, The Douglaston Dock, Memorial Field and Playground, the entrance at Sand Hill Road, internal parks, and the shoreline around the Manor.
As a dedicated Udalls Cove board member, she has worked with Presidents Kamhi and Mugden to bring about the restoration of Aurora Pond, bring environmental awareness to the community through annual cove cleanups and school contests for the Aurora Gareiss Awards.
