William
L. Singer was commissioned as a 2/LT in the United States Army Reserve on June
7, 1961. This was the result of four years of study in both the Basic Air Force
TOTC program and the Advanced Army ROTC program at New York University.
Mr. Singer’s educational background includes an academic diploma from Jamaica H.S., A B.S. in marketing from New York University – Stern School of Business, in 1961 and an M.B.A. in Management from Long Island University in 1973.
He entered active duty on July 22, 1961, and received officer Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA. thereupon; he embarked upon his military obligation at Fort Leonard wood, MO. At this installation, he served in a variety of line and staff positions which included Training Officer, General Supply Officer and Company Commander of Headquarters Company and holding Company at the United States Army reception Station. Also, he served as a platoon leader of a rifle platoon in the First Infantry Division at Fort Riley, KS.
Mr. Singer was released from active duty on July 21, 1963 as a 1/LT. Mr. Singer joined the Jewish War Veterans (JWV) in 1990 with Hillcrest Post #24. He served as Sr. Vice Commander, Post Commander, Jr. Vice-Commander, Sr. Vice Commander, and Commander of Queens County Council. He has also served as county adjutant, DEC and Chief of Staff. He is currently a member of Bell-Oak Post #64.
On the department level, he has served as Jr. Vice-Commander, Sr. Vice-Commander, Dept. Commander and National Executive Committeeman (NEC).
Mr. Singer received the following medals: The National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On November 20, 2003 he received a proclamation from Councilman David Weprin at City Hall for being Veteran of the District.
Mr. Singer is married to Linda, who is Past Department President of QCJWVA, and a son Stuart. Mr. Singer is employed, for over 42 years with New York City Office of Child Support Enforcement as a Human Resource Administrator Section Manager.
