Debra Markell Kleinert

Debra Markell is a life long resident of North Flushing and resides in the Mitchell-Linden community. Debra started her career as systems manager in the computer industry and was a strong community leader and volunteer. She was affiliated with various community organizations in the 1990's. She was a Candidate for City Council in the 20th District and ran in the Democratic Primary in 1997. She was President, Mitchell-Linden Civic Association from 1994 - 1998, President - 109^th Precinct Community Council 1995 – 1998, and a Board Member Community Board 7 1996 – 1998.

Debra Markell started at the Office of Mayors Community Assistance Unit in June 1998 as the Queens Borough Director under Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani.

Debra was re-appointed as the North Queens Director for the Community Assistance Unit for Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

The Mayor refers to CAU as his " eyes and ears" in New York's many diverse neighborhoods. As the Administration strives for a better quality of life for all New Yorkers, CAU plays a pivotal role in that strategy. Every issue is important to that goal and through our direct work with neighborhood groups and our cooperation and coordination with the various City agencies, we take pride in our ability to assist citizens in making New York a better place, in which we live and work. Debra is honored and pleased to serve all of her communities with pride and dignity and looks forward to a continued working relationship.

Debra has worked on a vast array of community issues ranging from bridging various communities, resolving constituent complaints and establishing initiatives in order to benefit Queens and the City.

The neighborhoods Debra covers include Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston, Auburndale, Fresh Meadows, Kew Garden Hills, Jamaica Estates, Hillcrest, Briarwood, Astoria, Corona, East Elmhurst, Forest Hills, Rego Park, Flushing, Clearview, Bay Terrace, Whitestone, Mitchell Linden, College Point, Queensboro Hill, Malba, Richmond Hill, and Woodhaven.

Debra attended the CUNY school system and is married to Barry Kleinert a Floral Designer and President of Diva Floral Showcase.
