Youth Of The Year (Male)

Blaise Latella

Born February 26 1986 to Roma and John Latella, Blaise is the second of four children. He attended P.S. 221, M.S. 67, and is currently a senior at Regis High school, an all-scholarship school for Catholic young men on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Blaise has tried to emulate his school motto of "Men for Others" by volunteering on service trips to Camden New Jersey and Quito Ecuador.  In the summer of 2003, Blaise worked with five schoolmates for a month teaching english, spanish math and theology to impoverished children at the "Centro del muchahcho trabajador", or working boys center in Quito Ecuador. The Center itself educates and feeds a thousand impoverished Ecuadorians, and teaches them the value of hard work while bringing their families together to help each other succeed and build a stronger community. Blaise presently volunteers at the Merricats Castle School on 88th street. Blaise also worked as a counselor at the Community Church of Douglaston Summer camp, and has held a job waitering at the Douglaston Club for the better part of four years. An avid runner and sailor, Blaise can be found running the roads of Douglaston on almost any given morning, and spends his summer days on the waters of Little Neck Bay, where he will teach sailing this coming summer.  An honors student,  Blaise will attend Princeton University in the fall.
