Joseph Franco, Proprietor

Joseph Franco has been the proprietor of Caffé on the Green Restaurant & Caterers since December 3, 1991. It is the former residence of Rudolph Valentino. The property was an abandoned eyesore to the community. Mr. Franco¹s vision and hard work made the establishment a success, and greatly improved the aesthetics of the area.

Joseph¹s career in the restaurant business began in 1972 when he opened his first pizzeria on Second Avenue and 62nd Street. Two years later, a second pizzeria opened on Second Avenue and 59th Street. His next venture was Ristorante Dieci on 1st Avenue and 81st Street in Manhattan, which he owned and operated for 17 years.

He was born in Elmhurst Queens and raised in Flushing. He attended Bleeker 185 Junior High, and Flushing High School and graduated Pos Institute of Insurance.

Joseph has received numerous awards and recognition throughout the years for his service and generousity to the community. He has been a member of the Queens Chamber of Commerce since 1992.

Some of his accomplishments include:

1993 - Appreciation Award from the Joyce Kilmer Council.
1995 - Man of the Year Award from the American Cancer Society.
1999 - Outstanding Business Person of the Year from Fleet Bank.
2000 - Restauranteur of the Year - N.Y. State Restaurant Association.
2004 - Award of Excellence - DiRona (Distinguished Restaurants of North America).
2004 - Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator Publication.
