Catherine
R. GloverCatherine R. Glover, the oldest of four children, was born to Irish immigrants in New York City sometime prior to WWII. (We want to keep you guessing about her age). She spent her early childhood in the Bronx, and then moved with her family at the age of 5 to Flushing, Queens, where she lived until she was married. She attended local Flushing elementary and high schools, and put herself through college and obtained a degree in education from Fordham by working during the day, and earning her credits attending night classes. She utilized that degree to become a public school teacher at P.S. 25 in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. In 1965, she married William T. Glover, and in 1966 left teaching to start a family. In 1968, she and her husband Bill settled in Hollis Hills, Queens to raise their two daughters. Kay continues to reside in this house today. When her daughters were both in school full-time, Kay entered St. John's University Law School as a "February" student, and obtained her law degree in 2 1/2 years. Upon graduating from St. John's Law in 1978, she and her husband established the law firm of Glover & Glover, where they practiced law together for two decades. Aside from her achievements in the field of law, Kay has held offices as the president of the Queens Women's Bar Association, and has been the president of the Eastern Queens (now Eleanor Roosevelt) Woman's Democratic Club. She has served on the nominating committee of both the Queens County and New York State Bar Associations. She was also a member of the Second Department Grievance Committee, where she was part of a committee that heard grievances made against practicing attorneys; determined whether there was attorney misconduct; and recommended the proper sanction for the misconduct. After her husband Bill was elected to the New York State Supreme Court in 1998, Kay continued in private practice as an attorney in Bayside, Queens. She continues to serve the community as a member of the board of directors of the Little Neck Memorial Day Parade Committee and as Democratic State Committee Woman from the 24th Assembly District. |
