The 76th Annual Little Neck- Douglaston Memorial
Day parade steps off at 2 pm on Monday May 26th, 2003 rain or shine. The
parade begins at Northern Blvd. and Jayson Ave. in Great Neck (Nassau County)
and proceeds west along Northern Blvd. to the St. Anastasia RC School yard at
245th St. in Douglaston.
Our Grand Marshall is Eugene V. Lombardo, a
distinguished retired Army Colonel, former head of the NY Metropolitan United
Services Organization (USO) and a good family man, neighbor and citizen.
Invited dignitaries include Gov. Pataki, Sen.
Charles Schumer, Rep. Gary Ackerman, Mayor Bloomberg, Queens Borough President
Helen Marshal, State Senators Frank Padavan and Serpin Maltese, State Assembly
members Ann Margaret Carrozza, Brian McLaughlin and Mark Weprin, City Council
members Tony Avella, James F. Gennaro, Melinda Katz, John C. Liu and David I
Weprin.
Featured groups include:
The US 3rd Army Fife and Drum Corps, "The Old
Guard", who wear the uniform of the Revolutionary War era.
The 3rd US Army Silent Drill Team, who along with
the Old Guard and the detachment at Arlington National Cemetery which guards
the Tomb of the Unknowns, comprise the Army's ceremonial unit.
The United States Navy Color Guard and contingent.
The USO troupe of Metropolitan NY on a sound
float.
The 1st US Volunteer Cavalry "Rough Riders" Col
Teddy Roosevelt, commanding and Association of Black Cowboys as horse mounted
units and the 14th N.Y.S.M. Co. E (14th Brooklyn) Civil War re-enactors.
Hundreds of veterans and active duty members of
the US Armed forces and cadets will march along with many hundreds more
elected officials, honorees, ordinary citizens and schoolchildren.
Ceremonies at the conclusion of the parade include
tributes and awards, and we will distribute thousands of free hotdogs and soft
drinks to marchers and spectators alike. These are donated by the Palm Too
Restaurant in Manhattan, and prepared by their executive chef, Mr Russell
Brown, a Douglaston native.
